The Summer Soul Top is a beginner-friendly knitting pattern that proves minimalism can feel both stylish and feminine.
It’s knit in garter stitch, which makes it simple and approachable—even if it’s your very first garment.
SKILL LEVEL:
Don't worry if you're new to garment knitting. All of my patterns are designed with adventurous beginners in mind. As long as you're comfortable with the knit and purl stitches and have tackled projects like scarves or hats, you have the skills to create this top.

METHOD:
The Summer Soul Top is a seamless, top-down knit. It starts with the upper back section, worked flat in garter stitch, followed by picked-up stitches for the front shoulders, which are gradually increased to shape the neckline. Once the upper front and upper back are joined, the body is worked with garter stitch in the round (alternating knit and purl rounds).
For those who prefer flat knitting with side seams, there’s an option to work only knit rows.
The top is finished with a 1x1 ribbed hem, with the armholes and neckline framed in 1x1 rib from picked-up stitches.

This top is designed with approx. 0-12 cm/ 0-4.75 inches of positive ease.
Model is wearing a size S and is 168 cm/ 5’6’’ tall with a 89 cm/ 35.5” bust circumference.
♥ YARN .
The Black and Gray tops were knit using Friends Cotton Silk yarn (77% Cotton, 23% Bourette Silk), an 8-ply DK/worsted-weight yarn. Each skein contains 50 g / 120 m (1.8 oz / 131 yards). Color 117 Light Gray (Gray version) and 124 (Black version).
You will need: 5-5-6-6-7-8-8-9-9-10-10, 50 grams/1.8 oz skeins for your size.
Or 600(XXS) -650(XS) -710(S) -760(M) -825(L) -970(XL) -1020(2XL) -1070(3XL) -1160(4XL) -1210(5XL) -1290(6XL) yards.
♥ NEEDLES:
For ribbing: 3.5 mm (US 4) circular needles in 40 cm (16 inches) and 80 or 100 cm (31 or 40 inches).
For the body: 4 mm (US 6) circular needles in 60, 80, or 100 cm (24, 31, or 40 inches).
Alternatively, you can use the Magic Loop technique and work with one needle length of 80-100 cm (31-40 inches).
♥ GAUGE is 20 sts x 33 rows in a 10x10 cm (4x4 inches) piece in garter stitch on 4 mm (US 6) needles (after blocking).
TAPESTRY NEEDLE: Used to slip the sleeve stitches onto scrap yarn and to weave in ends.
STITCH MARKERS: Several removable stitch markers.
