The Monoko Tee is a beginner-friendly summer top with a drop shoulder construction. I kept the body simple and placed the diamond lace only on the sleeves, so you can learn how lace works without knitting it across the entire top. Once your Monoko Tee is finished, you’ll have a stylish summer top and the skills to try another lace pattern.

♥ SKILL LEVEL. Adventurous Beginner. Ideally, you already have at least one top made with DK weight yarn behind you. If you’ve already knitted my Mellow Mood Top or the Nuance Tee with its mesh pattern, you can go straight to the lace sleeve version.

♥ METHOD. The tee is knitted seamlessly from the top down.

You begin with the upper back, worked flat with increases on every row. Stitches are then picked up along the shoulders to work the two front sections. These are shaped at the neckline and joined to form one front piece.

Once the front is complete, the front and back are joined, and the body is worked in the round. The shoulder line is slightly shifted toward the back.

Sleeve stitches are picked up and worked in the round, either in plain stockinette or in the diamond lace pattern. The neckline is finished with 1x1 ribbing.

♥ CUSTOMIZE YOUR TOP. Make it longer or shorter, adjust the sleeve length, or choose the plain sleeve option.

♥ SIZES. Available in 11 sizes: XXS, XS, S, M, L, XL, 2XL, 3XL, 4XL, 5XL, and 6XL.

Designed with approximately 8–18 cm / 3.25–7 in of positive ease.

Size reference: I’m wearing size M in the pink and green samples. I’m 168 cm / 5'6" tall with a 96 cm / 38" bust.

YARN:

This top can be made with a variety of DK weight yarns. Here’s what I used for the samples:

1. Pink sample
DROPS Belle (53% Cotton, 33% Viscose, 14% Linen, 8 ply / DK/ worsted, 50 g/ 120 m or 1.8 oz/131 yards per skein), color 30 Powder Pink.
You will need:
6 (XXS), 7 (XS), 7 (S), 8 (M), 9 (L), 9 (XL), 9 (2XL), 10 (3XL), 10 (4XL), 11 (5XL), 12 (6XL) skeins of 50 g / 1.8 oz.

2. Tutorial sample
Cascade Ultra Pima (100% Pima Cotton, Light/DK, 100 g / 200 m or 3.5 oz / 220 yds,)color 3867 Bronze.
You will need:
4 (XXS), 5 (XS), 5 (S), 5 (M), 6 (L), 6 (XL), 6 (2XL), 6 (3XL), 7 (4XL), 7 (5XL), 7 (6XL) hanks of 100 g / 3.5 oz.

Or approximately:
820 (XXS), 895 (XS), 955 (S), 1035 (M), 1110 (L), 1180 (XL), 1215 (2XL), 1290 (3XL), 1340 (4XL), 1425 (5XL), 1520 (6XL) yards.

For the lace sleeves, I added Rico Design Creative Make It Perlchen in the same color alongside the main yarn. This is completely optional.

NEEDLES: 3.5 mm / US 4 and 4 mm / US 6 circular needles in the following lengths:
40 cm / 16 in
80 or 100 cm / 31 or 40 in.

GAUGE: 20 sts x 30 rows = 10 x 10 cm / 4 x 4 in in stockinette stitch on 4 mm / US 6 needles, after blocking.

TAPESTRY NEEDLE. Used to weave in ends.

STITCH MARKERS: Several removable stitch markers.

Also a scrap of thinner yarn in a contrasting color or a silicone cord to hold the back and front stitches.
