My top 4 Hobbii yarns, all-season ready!
Share
I couldn’t wait to tell you about a few Hobbii yarns I’ve been trying out for my upcoming projects! As much as I love Drops, these Hobbii picks have a special something that’s totally worth sharing.
They’re all beginner-friendly (so you can unravel as many times as needed!), soft to the touch, and crafted with natural blends that feel amazing on the skin - ideal for cozy sweaters, breezy summer tops, and even dresses!
I think you’ll fall in love with these versatile options just as much as I have. Let’s dive in, and I’ll share some tips and patterns along the way to get you inspired.
Yarn 1. Hobbii Upcycled Alpaca Blend
This unique yarn combines 33% alpaca, 33% wool, and 34% acrylic, creating a soft, slightly rustic texture that feels wonderfully snug. I ordered it in Icy Blue 11 and while it’s darker than it appears online, the denim-like tone is still beautiful - just not the baby blue I expected! For a closer look at the actual shade, check out patterns on Hobbii or projects on Ravelry.
Creative Idea: One of my test knitters used this yarn in her First Star sweater, pairing it with melange kid mohair to achieve an aran-weight yarn with a fascinating, soft look!
Yarn Details:
- Weight: 100g (3.5 oz)
- Length: 200m (218 yds)
- Yarn Weight: Worsted
It’s beginner-friendly and durable, so even if you need to unravel a few times, it won’t wear down.
You can substitute this yarn for patterns that use Drops Lima (such as my Weekend Glow sweater) or other wool blends with similar weight.
Featured Pattern:
- Willin Sweater (Free Pattern): This simple yet elegant design highlights the yarn’s rustic texture, making it a perfect choice for anyone who loves minimalist, classic styles.
Tip: For the best experience, use wood or bamboo needles with this yarn. They grip the alpaca blend nicely, reducing the chance of dropped stitches and helping you maintain an even tension.
Yarn 2. Friends Cotton Silk
Friends Cotton Silk is a light, luxurious blend of 77% cotton and 23% bourette silk, bringing together the best of both fibers. This yarn has a subtle sheen and a smooth, cool touch, making it ideal for airy, summer-ready garments. Available in both solid and print colors, it lets you choose between timeless neutrals or playful tones for any project.
I chose Oatmilk 03, a gentle, creamy hue that complements everything, and Baby Pink 51 as another favorite for its soft, uplifting tone. My plan? A sleeveless, garter stitch summer top that will really showcase the texture of this beautiful yarn - simple, stylish, and perfect for warm days.
Yarn Details:
- Weight: 50g (1.75 oz)
- Length: 120m (131 yds)
- Yarn Weight: DK
It’s perfect for lightweight, breathable garments that stay comfortable even in the heat.
This yarn is also a great option for patterns that call for Drops Belle or Sandnes Garn Line (I used both for the Mellow Mood top),
Patterns from Hobbii you’ll love:
- Julie Shirt (Paid Pattern): A classic raglan sweater with an effortless fit that exudes casual summer style. The light drape of Friends Cotton Silk will beautifully accentuate this relaxed silhouette.
- Sunkissed Dress (Paid Pattern): A breezy, stylish dress that’s perfect for sunny days. The natural cotton-silk texture combined with a simple lace pattern adds charm to the finished look. If you’re feeling adventurous (intermediate level), this lovely dress is a great project to try!
- Vera T-Shirt (Paid Pattern): A versatile, everyday tee that feels as good as it looks. Friends Cotton Silk’s soft blend will add that touch of comfort and elegance, making this a go-to piece for any season. Also great for adventurous beginners.
Yarn 3. Hobbii Garland
Save 12-30% when you select multiple skeins!
Garland is such a unique find! It’s a blend of 70% cotton and 30% alpaca, which gives it this soft, cozy feel but without the intense warmth of pure wool - a nice balance for chilly but not freezing days.
The yarn has a special tubular cotton structure with alpaca fibers blended in, creating a light, fuzzy “halo” that makes your stitches look extra soft and textured. Plus, the colors are gorgeous; you’ll find everything from vibrant hues to gentle neutrals, so there’s something to match any style.
Yarn Details:
- Weight: 50g (1.75 oz)
- Length: 105m (114 yds)
- Yarn Weight: Worsted
I haven’t tried Garland yet, but it’s on my list because I love how it looks in textured patterns. It’s like a winter yarn, but without that heavy, too-warm feel, so it works nicely for layering pieces. If you enjoy this kind of blend, you might also like Sandnes Garn Duo - another good option with a similar vibe.
Inspiration: Hobbii actually has a Reel that showcases the whole palette on Instagram - worth checking out to get a real sense of each color.
Featured Pattern:
- Adorned Pullover (Free Pattern): This sweater is a great choice if you're an adventurous beginner and feeling ready to take on a bit more of a challenge! I looked through the pattern, and the instructions are clear and easy to follow. If you've already knit a couple of simpler sweaters, this is a perfect “next step” to build your skills.
Yarn 4. Rainbow Bamboo
This yarn is a blend of 60% bamboo viscose and 40% cotton, giving it a silky-smooth texture with a lovely, subtle sheen.
While it’s a bit finer than what I usually work with, I couldn’t resist sharing it with you because it feels so wonderful to the touch. You might want to keep it in mind for that special project you’re willing to challenge yourself with, as it works with 3.5mm needles.
- Weight: 100g (3.5 oz)
- Yarn Length: 250m (273 yds)
- Yarn Weight: Sport
I hope you enjoyed this little journey through my top Hobbii yarn picks! Each of these yarns has something special to offer, whether it’s the cozy softness of the Upcycled Alpaca Blend, the lightweight elegance of Friends Cotton Silk, the unique texture of Garland, or the smooth drape of Rainbow Bamboo.
These yarns have inspired me with so many ideas, and I hope they spark a bit of inspiration in you, too!
As always, remember that every project is a chance to learn and try something new.
Whether you’re working on a simple sweater or ready to take on a bit more of a challenge, I’m here cheering you on every step of the way. 😊
